Basic Sewing and Fabric Fun

Ages 8-13
Students will work with the machine and learn basic sewing machine from 10-12 and in the afternoon they will work with a variety of creative fabric techniques. At the end of the sewing lessons, students will finish their projects with appliqué, beading, and embroidery stitches and have creative projects that they will show with pride. Bring machine, lunch and something to drink.

Register by June 1st $90.00 a $25.00 deposit will hold space.

Summer Art Camps at the Joy of Art Studio

Art in the Park at the Joy of Art Studio



Students will learn how to see like an artist and draw what they see.



Students will sketch from life experience. We will walk around town, and in the park. They will also use the viewfinder as a tool in drawing, learn pencil techniques for shading and texture and learn about the artists famous for their drawings of nature. Drawing is learning how to really “see”. Students will also keep a sketchbook during the camp. Sketchbook and pencils will be included..

During lunch they will watch art DVDs which will be included in their afternoon painting. Learning about the Artists through Creative Projects lesson of that day. We will also tour the downtown and talk about art all around. They will interview Frank Pierce at Eye Candy Gallery see the animals at the Christian Bookstore Science Museum , sketch the objects that they see in the windows, and do easel painting outside sketch nature that they find in the park and celebrate the end of the week with Artists and Food and decorate cupcakes at CCups Cupcakery.


They will learn about the artists and create paintings using various techniques and styles. They will do a jungle, self portrait, a still life of flowers in a vase, a bowl of apples and a dream landscape. I will also use visual material from the Washington Museum of art to help enhance their learning process. Ages 9-13

$90.00 for the week plus cupcake money lunch and water and note for permission to go downtown. . Call for further information and registration.

Students will learn a bit about the history of fashion past and present the 60’s and Now. We will talk about fashion and different countries and cultures. They will learn about fashion designing and fashion designers create and fowl fabric is made.

 

They will learn how to draw the fashion face and figure and using a fashion template designs their own clothes. They will learn how to draw the fashion face and do a painting from their drawing. We will visit Eve Avery and look at the fashion and jewelry and sketch what they see and learn how Eve Chooses her fashion for her store and Sharon will share how she designs her windows. We will visit Retro next do to the studio and talk about hair makeup and nails and they will see an example of each and learn what is popular, visual material from the fashion  past and present will also be available for them to see examples especially fashion from the 60/s and 70’s . They will use various fashion magazines and create a collage of faces, fashion, makeup, jewelry, and other accessories.  We will also talk about design and fashion and each girl will bring in a piece of clothing and share what they see in  relation to the elements and principles of design, Thy will also draw from a real mannequin head and add jewelry and scarves as a part of their lesson in fashion. If your daughter loves clothes and wants to know more about fashion, she will want to come to this amazing week of Fashion camp June and August this camp can also be set up as an individual group by appointment…

The Magic of Drawing Tools and Techniques

 

June 17-21 10-3:30

 

Student will learn all about the art of drawing in a variety of media, they will learn about artists who loved drawing and see examples of different styles and use of drawing tools… They will learn about line and the expression of it in artwork. They will learn how to use different methods to draw and work with values  shadow light and shading to create realistic objects. We will cover  texture and tone in their art work and they  will draw with ink, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor pencil,  and a brush and see the different effects that each create. We will talk about the Dureur’sdrawings of trees and sketch their own trees from what they see.  They will learn about composition and how to create it in their own drawings and set up a still life and draw what they “see”. I will cover using the view finder, doing thumbnail sketches and how to make a transfer of their drawings. We will cover perspective and students will have the opportunity to see and draw it  in real life. Students will draw from nature and learn about keeping a sketchbook and learn about the artists who kept sketchbooks. Visual material will be used to reinforce their learning process… If your child loves to draw and really wants to work on their drawing skills, this camp is for you…

 

 

This is a five day very intense week of focused drawing with loads of creative projects…
